Notts Golf Club 7.5 - 10.5 Oxford University Golf Club

On a bleak morning at Holinwell Oxford´s foursomes pairings showed their quality taking the session 4-2. Mercurio and van Wijk had a great half off top, shooting two under the standard scratch against Notts´ strongest pair. Other good performances from Wells and Crummey as well as Slowther and Smith (past Vincents President) helped Oxford take the lead into lunch.

In the afternoon singles the Dark Blues were just as strong taking the singles by 6.5-5.5. Convincing wins from Wells, Upcott Gill and Crummey took Oxford close to winning the match. The final result eventually came down to Hind and Salonen, two Divots who had been called up to replace the missing Gems and Consul. The two Divots prevailed, sealing the win for Oxford. One of the crucial halves of the day came from Calum Slowther, this year´s Hon. "Disgraceful" Secretary, who negotiated a half after 3 holes as his opponent was feeling under the weather. Unlike the rest of the team, battling the beast of a golf course in the rain, Calum enjoyed a few of Suffolk´s finest Aspalls ciders in the clubhouse. Later in the evening the team was treated to a black tie dinner upstairs in the clubhouse. The dinner was enjoyed by all and in particular by the Hon. Secretary who was the merriest of the Oxford men, found later having a sleep on the changing room floor.
