About OUGC OUGC is the full Blues sports club for competitive golf at Oxford. Each year, our season culminates in the Varsity Match which is played against Cambridge. The Dark Blues have been competing in this fixture for over 120 years and it offers both our Men’s and Ladies’ teams the chance to win a coveted Oxford Blue. The University Match comes at the end of a season of over 30 weekend fixtures for the Blues and around 20 fixtures for the Divots (2nd team) and Ladies. We are invited to play against great golf clubs all around Britain, over some of the world’s finest courses. We consider ourselves enormously lucky not only to be pitted against good golfers over great courses but also to be invited by our opponents to lunch and dine so well. Interested in golf at Oxford? A detailed summary of the Blues´ triumphs in a successful Autumn term.  The Dark Blues prevail for a second consecutive year, this time by the narrowest of margins at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club. University of Cambridge 7 - 8 University of Oxford  After constructing a sizeable foursomes lead, Oxford surrender victory with a fatigued singles display.  A trio of consecutive successes were enjoyed by the University with a comfortable win at the local Frilford Heath  The return of the talismanic Thomas Smith Esq. guides Oxford to a double-win weekend  Oxford continued their good form with a strong win at Notts Golf Club despite missing two of their big guns.  The Blues half with a strong home side to complete a very positive weekend on the south coast  Oxford´s newly announced Varsity Match team hits the ground running with a resounding victory at Sandwich.  The final University Match trial took place on Wednesday with many players putting in solid bids for spots at Deal  Worplesdon and West Hill inflict defeat on Oxford following promising consecutive wins a week ago Hugh Upcott Gill and Jim Mercurio take the all-important second trial at Burnham and Berrow  The Oxford Blues achieve a comfortable victory over West Sussex and gather vital momentum towards the season´s climax  David Crummey holes a superb 30-footer on the last green at Woking to give Oxford their first win in a month  A blustery day at Huntercombe provides a stern test for all Dark Blue hopefuls.  Royal Wimbledon and The Berkshire present the Dark Blues with two more strong sides  Oxford had a tough weekend losing to two extremely strong teams in the Moles and Sunningdale.  Oxford lost by a point to Hankley Common with the match coming down to the last game on the 18th green.  Oxford put up a good fight against Walthon Heath but were always struggling against such a strong home team.  Oxford beat both Brancaster and Hunstanton this weekend to return from Norfolk with two great wins against two strong sides.  Consul and Carver go far in The Putter but neither make Sunday. |
